About Raise The Bar Video Transcript

Raise the Bar is a program designed and implemented by the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) at the University of Michigan and is supported by the Ann Arbor Campus community Coalition (A2C3) and Wolverine Wellness. The mission of Raise the Bar is to decrease the incidences of sexual and gender-based violence among University students within the Ann Arbor community. The program works with local bars and transportation services to provide tailored workshops on the subjects of sexual assault and bystander intervention.

Each workshop consists of a two-hour interactive presentation that engages participating bar staff and ride-sharing drivers directly in discussion, knowledge-acquisition, and skill-building. The aim of the workshop is to increase bar staff and ride-sharing driver's knowledge of the various components of sexual assault, to increase bar staff and ride-sharing driver’s ability to identify consensual versus perpetrating behavior, and to assist bar staff and ride-sharing drivers in building skills and confidence to intervene in problematic situations.

Workshops are FREE and are conducted at establishments at staff's convenience. Transportation workshops are organized through ride-sharing services management staff. Do you work at an alcohol service establishment or drive for a ride-sharing service? Reach out to us for more information and to schedule your Raise The Bar training!

About

Participating Establishments

Looking for a bar that has your back? Check out the list of Ann Arbor establishments that have completed the Raise The Bar training.

Establishments who have completed Raise The Bar training may have these posters in their restrooms. Asking your bartender or server for an"RTB shot" at an establishment that has these posters signals that you are receiving unwanted attention and that you are in need of help. Staff at establishments who have these posters are trained to assist you.

Transportation

We at Raise The Bar know how important it is for all community members to be ready to step up and step in when someone may be receiving unwanted attention. That is why we are working to train local Ann Arbor transportation services to ensure that you have someone looking out for you from the time you leave to go out until you are safely back home. Check out the list of Ann Arbor transportation services who have been trained by Raise The Bar.

This project is supported by the Campus Sexual Assault Grant Program, awarded by the State of Michigan and administered by the Michigan State Police (MSP).
